Launching a Shopify store for the UAE: a 20-point checklist

Payments, delivery, Arabic, VAT and trust: twenty things to check before you open an online store for UAE shoppers.

Key points
  • Offer the payment methods UAE shoppers expect, including cash on delivery where it makes sense.
  • Show delivery times and fees before checkout.
  • Prices should be shown in AED with VAT handled correctly.
  • Install analytics and conversion tracking before spending on ads.

A Shopify store can be live in a day. A store that converts UAE shoppers takes a little more care. Use this checklist before launch.

Payments and pricing

  1. Prices shown in AED.
  2. VAT handled correctly and stated clearly. Check your VAT position with an accountant.
  3. Card payments and popular wallets enabled.
  4. A decision on cash on delivery, and its fee if any.
  5. Buy-now-pay-later options considered for higher-priced items.

Delivery and returns

  1. Delivery areas covered, including other emirates.
  2. Delivery time and fee shown on product pages.
  3. Same-day or next-day options in Dubai if your courier offers them.
  4. A clear, simple returns policy.
  5. Order confirmation and tracking messages by email and WhatsApp.

Trust

  1. Real contact details and a WhatsApp button.
  2. A trade licence or company name on the about or contact page.
  3. Real product photos, sizes and materials.
  4. Reviews from real customers once you have them.
  5. Privacy policy and terms pages.

Language and experience

  1. Arabic version or at least Arabic on key pages, depending on your audience.
  2. Fast mobile loading; most shoppers will visit on a phone.
  3. Search and filters that work on mobile.

Tracking

  1. Google Analytics and Meta pixel installed and tested.
  2. Purchase events firing correctly before you spend on ads.

Frequently asked questions

Do UAE shoppers still use cash on delivery?

Many still do, especially for first orders with a new store. Some stores offer it with a fee or only above a minimum order.

Do I need an Arabic store?

It depends on your audience. Arabic on key pages helps reach Arabic-first shoppers and builds trust.

What should I set up before running ads?

Analytics, the Meta pixel and working purchase tracking, so you can see which ads actually sell.
